Day by day…
A truly cultural and historical trip over 11 days
The Sipan culture has provided researchers a completely new vision of the social, political, religious, and technological organization that formed the base of the Moche Valley cultures, including the Mochica and Chimu civilizations – two of the most important pre-Columbian civilizations in Peru.
Chan Chan city, located just 4 km from Trujillo shows how important and powerful the Mochica and Chimu civilizations were. The Moche Valley ultimately became part of the great Tawantinsuyo Empire (the Incas) during Inca Tupac Yupanqui’s reign in the 15th century.
We will visit the city of Chachapoyas, famous for its cloud forest – a natural preserve for a tremendous variety of flora and fauna. Another important attraction in Chachapoyas is the Kuelap fortress. Kuelap was discovered in 1843 by the archaeologist Crisostomo Nieto. Many other famous archaeologists have studied this fortress for years, but it was only a few years ago that it was finally proven that Kuelap existed as far back as 500 to 300 B.C.
