Day by day…
An itinerary which allows you to discover all the secrets of the Huayhuash Cordillera. This trip is considered to be one of the most beautiful treks in the world. Throughout the 10 days the fantastic changes in landscape ensure our 10-day hike is not monotonous. This trek is classified as difficult as we will cross passes between 4650 m.a.s.l. and 5000 m.a.s.l., although it does not really take long to acclimatize yourself to the altitude and physical activity.
Day 1: HUARAZ – LAGUNA JAHUACOCHA (4066 M)
On Day 1 we will travel by bus to the town of Llamac, where we will start our 5-hour trek to the Jahuacocha lagoon. Along the way, we enjoy the spectacular beauty of the Huayhuash mountain range. We will camp at night.

Distance: 13 km; Duration: 5 hours
Day 2: JAHUACOCHA - MATACANCHA (4100 M)
On day 2 we will make our 6-hour trek to Matacancha (6750 m.a.s.l.), passing through the Sambunya Pass (4750 m.a.s.l.). From that vantage point we will have a panoramic view of the Ronday Mountain (5870 m.a.s.l.), the Jurishancas mountain (6094 m.a.s.l.) and the Yerupaja mountain (6634 m.a.s.l.). We will camp at night.

Day 3: MATACANCHA – MITUCOCHA LAGOON (4230 M)
On Day 3 we will make a 6-hour trek up to Mitococha Lagoon passing through the Cacanpunta pass at 4685 m.a.s.l. There we will have a panoramic view of the Jirishanca mountain (6094 m.a.s.l.).

Day 4: TREK TO CARHUACOCHA LAGOON (4138 M)
On Day 4 we will trek to the Carchuacocha Lagoon passing through the Carhuac Pass (4650 m.a.s.l.). Along the way we will enjoy the magnificent view of the Yerupaja mountain (6634 m.a.s.l.). This mountain is the second highest in Peru, after the Huascaran. If we are lucky, we will enjoy some fresh river trout from the lagoon. We will camp at night.

Day 5: CARHUACOCHA – HUAYHUASH (4330 M)
On Day 5 we will make a 6 ½-hour hike to the glacier. We will travel toward the Huayhuash mountain range and we will cross the pass at 4800 m.a.s.l.

Distance 14 km; Duration: 6 ½ hours
Day 6: HUAYHASH – VICONGA LAGOON
On Day 6 we will hike to the Huayhuash Portachuelo at 4750 m.a.s.l. and then onto the Viconga Lagoon. We will enjoy the natural thermal baths in open air. We will camp at night.

Day 7: VICONGA – HUANACPATAY GORGE (4300 M)
On Day 7 we will cross the highest pass on the trek: Punta Cuyoc at 5000 m.a.s.l. From this pass we will have an impressive view of the mountain range. At night, we will make camp near the Cuyoc glacier.
Altitude Change: +570 meters / –700 meters
Distance 12 km; Duration: 5 hours
Day 8: HUANACPATAY – HUAYLLAPA (4350 M)
On Day 8 we will trek down to the town of Huayllapa (3500 m.a.s.l.) and then ascend to the plains where we will make camp for the night.
Altitude Change: + 850 meters / -750 meters
Distance 15 km; Duration: 7 hours
Day 9: HUAYLLAPA – JANACOCHA LAGOON (4066 M)
On Day 9 we will trek to the Tapush Pass (4750 m.a.s.l.) and then on to Punta Yaucha (4847 m.a.s.l.), where we will see flying condors and then we will continue on to the Janacocha Lagoon. Along the way, we may find ammonite fossils from the lagoon, which prove that an ancient sea was located here millions of years ago. Later, we will watch the sunset over the Huayhuash Cordillera and we will make camp there for the night – at the highest point of our trek.

Day 10: JAHUACOCHA – LLAMAC (3300) – HUARAZ
Our final day’s trek will take us approximately 5 hours as we hike to the town of Llamac where our mule drivers will be waiting for us and we will travel to Huaraz by bus.

Included:
Transport and subsequent transfers from your hotel in Huaraz, English speaking guide (+ 1 assistant if the group is > 8 people), 1 cooker (+ 1 assistant if the group is > 8 people), food during the treks, hiking and mountain equipment (tents, camping equipment, ropes, ice-picks, snow-brushes, first-aid kit), transport of collective equipment (by mules and porters).
Not Included:
International flight; Bus trip Lima-Huaraz; Hotels in Lima and Huaraz; Entrance fees to national parks and museums in Huaraz; Airport tax ($28 per person); Food purchases in restaurants in Huaraz and in the towns not included in the trek (food costs approximately $8 per person in a good restaurant). Personal equipment is also NOT included, such as a sleeping bag rated to –10˚ C; Mattresses; Hiking/Walking shoes; Helmut with light; Pick; Crampons, etc. These items CAN be rented. Note: Personal insurance is obligatory.
