Along the way......

Peru’s Mythical trek: in the heart of spectacular sceneries, with the added interests of numerous archaeological sites, the highlight being the Citadel of Machu Picchu, visited last.

Day 1 : CUZCO – KILOMETRE 82 – MISKAY – PATALLACTA - WAYLLABAMBA / TREK

In the morning, departure by vehicle for kilometer 82 of the railway track, departure point of the trek. Walk along the River Vilcanota and lunch-break at Miskay, at an altitude of 2700 meters a.s.l. (el. 8,858 feet). Camp at Wayllabamba.
Hiking time: around 6 hours.

Day 2 : WAYLLABAMBA - WARMIWAÑUSCA – PACAYMAYO / TREK

In the early morning, departure for the most difficult day of the trek. Walk to the Warmiwañusca Pass, at an altitude of 4200 meters a.s.l. (el. 13,780 feet) from where we appreciate the view over the surrounding mountains, including that of Veronica.
Continuation of the hike down to the Pacaymayo camp.
Hiking time: around 7 hours.

Day 3 : PACAYMAYO – RUNKURAQAY – WIÑAYWAYNA / TREK

In the morning continuation of the trek. We clear the second highest pass of the itinerary, at an altitude of 3900 meters a.s.l. (el. 12,795 feet).
Throughout the day, we make various stops to visit the archaeological sites of Runkuraqay, Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarca, and finally Wiñaywayna at an altitude of 2650 meters a.s.l. (el. 8,694 feet). Dinner and bivouac on the site.
Hiking time: around 7 hours.

Day 4 : WIÑAYWAYNA – MACHU PICCHU – OLLANTAYTAMBO - CUZCO / TREK

At dawn, departure to reach the highlight of this trek: the citadel of Machu Picchu.
The Inti Punku, the Gate of the Sun appears in front of us and the view over the Machu Picchu site is beyond compare. Day dedicated to the visit of the site; one of the wonders of the world, discovered in 1911 by the American anthropologist Hiram Bingham.
Ascent (optional) to the Huayna Picchu. In the afternoon, return by train to Ollantaytambo. Reception and transfer to the hotel in Cuzco.
