Gastronomic culture of Peru

Peru is well known for its diverse landscapes and its amazing scenery. This diversity is also reflected in Peru's cuisine, which is growing more and more famous worldwide. This original trip will satisfy those wanting to see it all. It will take you to the essential sites such as Machu Picchu and Titicaca, and will give you plenty of time to meet the local communities and share with the population. You will learn their ancient cooking technique.

Day 1: Lima

At your arrival at the airport Jorge Chávez of Lima, you will be taken to your hotel.

Day 2: Lima

Between 10:30 and 11 AM our culinary adventure begins at a typical Peruvian market. There you will be able to appreciate the wide variety of Peruvian products that are commonly available and enjoy and taste exotic fruits such as the chirimoya, lúcuma, aguaymanto and pacae. Be amazed by the huge variety of fish and seafood our ocean, considered one of the richest in the world, has to offer. We will also visit an exclusive restaurant - "La Rosa Náutica" - where you will have the opportunity to prepare your own pisco sour and the famous "ceviche". Then you will enjoy a delicious lunch consisting of the dishes most representative of Peruvian cuisine. 5 hour group excursion with a English / Spanish-speaking guide.

Day 3: Lima - Arequipa

You will be transferred to the Lima airport to take your flight.



Flight with destination Arequipa.


Reception at Arequipa airport and transfer to the hotel.

Half day dedicated to the discovery of Arequipa, the "white city". Enjoy a guided tour of the colonial downtown including the main square, the cathedral, the Jesuit church and convent as well as the Santa Catalina monastery. This small city hidden within the city is full of beautiful lanes lined with ochre, blue and white colored houses, small squares and fountains that are reminiscent of Andalucia.

Day 4: Arequipa - Puno

Transfer to Arequipa bus station.
Departure by bus directly to Puno, located on the shores of the Lake Titicaca. This itinerary allows us to discover the rather unusual landscapes of the Altiplano.
Reception at the bus station and transfer to the hotel.
Night at the hotel Qelqatani.

Day 5: Puno - Luquina Chico

In the morning, you will go to the little market of Laykakota with your guide and then you will continue to Chucuito in order to visit the temple of fertility.
In the late morning you will reach Luquina Chico and a family will welcome you. Together you will prepare the meal with the products you has bought in the market.
After the lunch, several activities will be offered such as walking along the lake, sailing boat or agricultural activities.
In the end of the day, you will learn how to prepare the quinoa flour with the ancestral technicals and cook some Andean rolls called "Panecillos"
You will have dinner around the fire and enjoy the local and alcoholic punch !

Day 6: Luquina Chico - Amantani

After breakfast, you will go to the fabulous and magnificent island of Amantani where another family will welcome and take care of you.
the first step will be the visit of the centre of Pachatata.
Back at your host, you will learn and prepare the famous Peruvian dish Pachamanca.

Feel free to take a walk in the streets of the village after lunch. The inhabitant are truly kind and friendly and you may have the occasion to observe Hummingbirds !

Day 7: Amantani - Puno

After breakfast, you will continue and complete tje exploration of Lake Titicaca. First you will make a stop on the floating island of Uros. These are not natural but build by the Uros tribe whose main activity is fishing.
Return by boat to Puno and transfer to the hotel.
Night at the hotel Qelqatani.

Day 8: Puno - Cusco

Transfer from the hotel to the bus station.
Around 7 AM departure by tourist bus to Cusco (ride non accompanied by a guide), navel of the Inca Empire.
This itinerary allows to enjoy beautiful landscapes along the route via the Col de la Raya, at 4320 meters above the sea level. Stop in the village of Pukara and small parade ground before continuing to Raqchi order to visit the temple of Wiracocha (the creator of the world), built with lava from volcano Quinchasata.
Discover the relics of the large administrative center which brings together more than 160 circular buildings which were used for storage a long time ago by the Empire.
The day will end with the visit of Anadhuaylillas knows as the Sistine Chapel especially for its inner wealth.

Arrival to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Day 9: Cusco

Early in the morning, you will go accompanied by your guide to explore the most typical markets of Cusco.
You will start with the farmers market Huancaro: a direct marketing model of producers to consumers.
Then you will visit the famous market of San Pedro where you will discover unknown fruits, "cusqueños" breads, local cheeses, florists and craftsmen!
Departure for an half-day dedicated to the discovery of Cuzco's historical downtown. In the morning, visits of the Koricancha (Temple of the Sun), and of the Cathedral, exhibiting some paintings from the School of Cuzco and many goldsmith’s art, silver and precious stones treasures. Then we walk down to the San Blas quarter (the artists’ place).

Day 10: Cusco - Pisac - Amaru

At 8 am, departure to the ruins of Pisac to visit the archaeological site. You will walk to the village to discover its traditional market full of color! Then you will go to meet the community Amaru II. It is cusual to welcome visitors by a small local ceremony! You twill swap your clothes for typical costumes and attend a demonstration of Andean weaving techniques recognized around the world for its exceptional quality.
We will go lunch at the house of Dweller and enjoy a little nap in this quiet places !
Finally, you will visit the agricultural workshops and discover the ancestral techniques still used today and the small museum of the potato!

Day 11: Amaru - Urubamba - Sacred Valley

At AM, you will leave the community of Amaru to go to Huayllafarra to meet a new family.
It will offer to wear new typical clothing of the region to prepare and taste the most emblematic dish of the Andes: the Pachamanca.
The Pachamanca is a Peruvian specialty of baking food in the ground with hot stones placed on top.
We'll explain the particularities of this dish, the agricultural calendar of the community and all methods of cultures.
After a short break, we take the road in the direction of Moray, where you will visit the Inca agricultural laboratory.
You will end your day by visiting the salt mines of Maras.

Day 12: Urubamba - Aguas Calientes

Early in the morning, you will go in the direction of Quillabamba Valley. Passage by Abra Malaga at 4297 meters above the sea level from where you will observe a change of vegetation. You will go along the jungle to reach Huayotapa where you will enjoy one of the best coffees of Peru.
You will be welcomed by Julia and her family where you will have lunch. Its cuisine is a treat. You will have the opportunity to visit her coffee and cocoa plantations and to attend a production demonstration.
In the middle of the afternoon, you will take a shuttle bus to reach the town of Santa Teresa in order to take the train to Aguas Calientes.

Day 13: Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes - Ollantaytambo - Cusco

In the early morning, direct connection to the shuttle service that will drive you to the citadel of Machu Picchu.
Arrival to Machu Picchu, wonder of the world.

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city of the fifteenth century in Peru. Abandoned during the collapse of the Inca Empire, Machu Picchu sacred city, forgotten for centuries, is considered as a masterpiece of Inca architecture. It was unveiled in 1911 by the American archaeologist Hiram Bingham.

Together with your english speaking guide, you will start to discover the archaeological complex, still covered by the morning mist, built on top of a ridge and surrounded by precipices. A stunning view that evolves with the progression of the sun! After the guided tour (around 3 hours for the visit), you have the opportunity to discover on your own.

Return by train to Ollantaytambo.
Reception at the train station and transfer to the hotel in Cusco.
