Trek 4 days in the Colca Canyon

Departure in the morning (8 a.m) in a private vehicle for the Colca valley (a 4 to 5 hour trip) that boasts one of the deepest canyons in the world at a depth of 3,680 meters. We will cross the Salinas Aguada Blanca National Reserve and the Patapampa pass, enjoying the magnificent landscapes along the way and possibly catching sight of vicuna and other camelids. Check-in to the hotel.

In the afternoon you may go on an optional excursion beginning with a 20 minute walk to the Uyo Uyo ruins from where there is a panoramic view over the southern side of the Colca valley (entrance fee to the Uyo Uyo site to be paid onsite). Then we will visit the market in Chivay and swim in the village thermal baths (entrance fee to be paid onsite).

Morning departure (6.30 a.m) for the Cruz del Condor (30 minutes away from Cabanaconde) where we can enjoy watching the flight of the condors. Then we return to Cabanaconde from where we begin our hike through the heart of the San Miguel pampa. We descend through the canyon to the small village of Llahuar. Lunch and the rest of the afternoon can be spent relaxing and/or optional swim in the thermal baths in Llahuar. Overnight in a simple cabin.

We set off early in the morning (7 a.m) for our second day of hiking starting on a steep and narrow path. Lunch in Malata. In the afternoon we will visit the small museum here that displays the agricultural tools used in the area and we will taste “chicha” (an alcoholic drink made from fermented corn). We will then walk for around an hour as far as Cosñirhua and continue on to San Juan de Chuccho where we will overnight in a simple cabin.

Early in the morning (4 a.m) we begin climbing toward Cabanaconde (a 4-hour hike). We follow the left-hand bank of the canyon in the direction of Chivay. We then continue on to Puno in a private vehicle and transfer to the hotel.
Hike elevation gain: +1100m.
Total hiking time: around 4 hours.
