Peru is a culturally rich country; some Andean communities are still living in a traditional way with the habits and customs that they inherited from their ancestors. In this tour you will discover their way of life. It combines sleeping in the local villages, in the very homes of the communities, and visits of the major touristic attractions of southern Peru. The locals will share with you a few moments of their daily lives, allowing you to discover a more authentic Peru, off the beaten track, in an ethical way.

Day 1: Lima

Upon your arrival at the airport Jorge Chávez of Lima, you will be taken to your hotel.

Day 2: Lima

Morning departure by private vehicle to Huaycan. On the way visit of the ruins of Puruchuco (closed on Mondays), which were built during the reign of the Incas and used as a residence for the Kuraca, an official of the Inca Empire.
Late in the morning, arrival at the workshop of the association Cory Llacta and meeting with artisans. Lunch at the workshop.
After lunch, the craftsmen will teach you the techniques of weaving and making certain object made in "burilado mate".
You will initiate yourself into their craft and leave with your home made object.
In the end of the afternoon, drive back to Lima.

Day 3: Lima - Arequipa

You will be transferred to the Lima airport to take your flight.


Flight to Arequipa.


Reception at Arequipa airport and transfer to the hotel.

Half day dedicated to the discovery of Arequipa, the "white city". Enjoy a guided tour of the colonial downtown including the main square, the cathedral, the Jesuit church and convent as well as the Santa Catalina monastery. This small city hidden within the city is full of beautiful lanes lined with ochre, blue and white colored houses, small squares and fountains that are reminiscent of Andalucia.

Day 4: Arequipa - Colca Valley

In the morning, departure in a private vehicle for Colca by the Colca Canyon route. On the way we will pass through the Pampa Cañahua nature reserve area where we can possibly observe vicunas and other camelids. We will stop at the Patapampa pass at an altitude of 4,900 m to view the surrounding volcanoes of Ampato, Sacanbaya and Hualca-Hualca. Arrival in Chivay and transfer to the village of Coporaque where we will be welcomed by a local family and settle into our accommodations. Lunch with the family. In the afternoon we will take part in activities and a walk with the family in the area and there is the option to swim in the thermal springs in the village. Dinner and night with the local host family.

Day 5: Colca Valley - Cruz del Condor - Puno - Llachon

After breakfast we will start our day with a stop at Cruz del Condor, at the heart of Colca, to observe Andean condors in flight and appreciate the depth of the canyon (1200m). We will then travel toward Chivay visiting the lookout points at Antahuilque and Choquetico, the pre-Inca cemetery and the traditional picturesque villages of Maca (3262m) and Yanque (3417m) along the way. In the early afternoon we return to Arequipa.

At 1:00 pm, departure in tourist bus to Puno. This itinerary allows us to discover the rather unusual landscapes of the Altiplano. Arrival in Puno at the beginning of the evening.

Recpetion in Puno and transfer to Llachon.
We will first meet our hosts then dinner and overnight with a local inhabitant.

Day 6: Llachon - Amantani

In the early morning, departure from the small port of Llachon for a one-hour cruise to Amantani. Reception and welcome into the home of a host family on the island. Lunch with the family and visit of the Inca ruins dedicated to the ‘Pachapapa’ and to the 'Pachamama'. Night with the host family.
Note: Very basic accommodations with a local family.

Day 7: Amantani - Taquile - Uros - Puno

In the morning, departure by boat for a one-hour cruise to Taquile, a island of great cultural interest, where residents still live in accordance with their ancestral traditions. Visit and time for lunch in a local restaurant (not included). Return to Puno in the mid afternoon with a stop and visit of one of the Uros floating islands along the way. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 8: Puno - Cusco

Transfer from the hotel to the bus station.
Around 7 AM departure by tourist bus to Cusco (ride non accompanied by a guide), navel of the Inca Empire.
This itinerary allows to enjoy beautiful landscapes along the route via the Col de la Raya, at 4320 meters above the sea level. Stop in the village of Pukara and small parade ground before continuing to Raqchi order to visit the temple of Wiracocha (the creator of the world), built with lava from volcano Quinchasata.
Discover the relics of the large administrative center which brings together more than 160 circular buildings which were used for storage a long time ago by the Empire.
The day will end with the visit of Anadhuaylillas knows as the Sistine Chapel especially for its inner wealth.

Arrival to Cusco in the late afternoon.

Reception at Cusco terminal bus and transfer to the hotel.
A guide will escort you from the airport to your hotel.

Day 9: Cusco - Sacsayhuaman - Q'enqo - Cusco

Departure for a half-day dedicated to the discovery of the ruins around Cusco (Sacsayhuaman and Q’enqo) and of the historical center: Koricancha (Temple of the Sun) and the Cathedral where several paintings of the Cusco School and many gold and silversmithery pieces and precious stone objects are displayed.
Return to the hotel in Cusco.

Day 10: Piuray Lake - Cusco - Umasbamba

Departure in a private vehicle with your guide and journey to Umasbamba, a traditional village on the shores of lake Piuray where inhabitants speak Quecha, the language of the Inca, and live from the sale of woven textiles and their crops. Reception and welcome into a local family's home. The afternoon will then be spent getting to know your hosts and learning about their ancestral weaving methods. Dinner and night in this community.

Day 11: Piuray Lake - Chinchero - Sacred Valley - Aguas Calientes

After breakfast you will leave for a short walk along the shores of lake Piuray to the Inca village of Chinchero. Here you will visit one of the last barter markets in the country (that takes place every Sunday) and climb on to the village where you will have lunch with a local family. In the afternoon you will visit the Inca site of Chinchero.

Departure for a 2 hours ride by train to Aguas Calientes. The Vistadome's wagons are completely covered with glass for a panoramic view throughout the journey.

Day 12: Machu Picchu - Ollantaytambo - Sacred Valley

In the early morning, direct connection to the shuttle service that will drive you to the citadel of Machu Picchu.
Arrival to Machu Picchu, wonder of the world.

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city of the fifteenth century in Peru. Abandoned during the collapse of the Inca Empire, Machu Picchu sacred city, forgotten for centuries, is considered as a masterpiece of Inca architecture. It was unveiled in 1911 by the American archaeologist Hiram Bingham.

Return by train to Ollantaytambo.

Day 13: Sacred Valley - Pisac - Cusco

8 am departure for a half-day trip exploring Pisac. We will visit the impressive Inca ruins and then wander around the colorful handicraft market. Return trip to Cusco and transfer to the hotel.

Day 14: Cusco - Lima

Transfer to Cusco's airport.
