Day by day…
The mysterious Lake Titicaca and all its legends...
Many things can be said about Lake Titicaca. First, it is the highest navigable lake in the world (3810 m.a.s.l); and with a surface of 4550 Km2 it is fifteen times bigger than Leman Lake! Legend says that Manco Cápac, the first Inca, and Mama Ocllo, his wife, arose from the waters of the lake with the purpose of founding the Inca Empire. This would make the Uros, native people who live on the islands of Lake Titicaca, direct descendants of Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo. We highly recommend that you discover the islands of Uros and Taquile.

Day 1: PUNO – UROS – TAQUILE – AMANTANI (BOAT)
In the morning we will depart from the port of Puno and take a boat to the Uros’ Islands. It will be a 40-minute boat ride and then we will have a guided tour of the floating Uros’ Islands. These are artificial islands made of Totora cane. They were constructed by the Uros people. The main activity of this indigenous group is fishing. Next, we will take a 2-hour boat ride to Taquile Island. This indigenous group offers a very special cultural atmosphere, because they have carefully maintained their ancestral traditions since Incan times. The trip includes lunch in a typical island restaurant. Early in the afternoon we will go by boat to the Amantani Island, which is one hour from Taquile Island, and we will spend the night in the house of a local resident. After dinner we might participate in a festivity organized by the local people.
