  • mosquito repellent (can be bought on location, necessary in Machu Picchu)
  • warm clothing for the evenings


For the mountains

From May to October, nights on the Altiplano and in the Cordillera, can be very cold. The days are usually nice and sunny.

  • day pack + a duffle bag for portage
  • good sleeping bag (can be rented on location, and in advance)
  • sleeping pad
  • headlamp and extra batteries
  • warm clothing
  • hiking poles (can be rented on location)
  • hiking shoes
  • hat

  • rain shell type Gore Tex
  • trekking shoes

  • glacier glasses
  • headlamp and extra batteries (the flat batteries are not available in Peru)
  • water bottle or delivery system

  • sleeping bag, at least a 15 degree bag

  • technical equipment: harness, ice axe, plastic boots, crampons, helmet, gaiters (can be rented in Huaraz or Cuzco)

From December to March: rainy season

  • long pants

  • mosquito repellent
